Consumerisation: Dealing with the Cloud before it becomes a Storm

With the ever growing, burgeoning desire among staff and managers to use personal devices in the workplace the concept of Consumerisation is now a reality.

The birth of the ‘know-how’ user is putting ever increasing pressure on IT to allow more and more freedom on more and more devices.   The influx of iPads, iPhones, Androids, laptops and tablets, and their inherent capabilities of allowing 24/7 connectivity, into the workplace challenges the traditional corporate provided infrastructure. This wealth of technological devices emerging in the work environment is ever increasing; all you need to do is look at the number of non-IT provided devices in front of you in your next business meeting.

As IT becomes Consumerised, the phrase “I have better IT at home” is no longer an exaggeration but a reality, as corporate IT is failing to adapt to this new generation of user who demands availability and accessibility. By enabling people to work wherever they are, whenever, from whatever device, not only gives users the freedom to work remotely and develop a better work-life balance, but by eliminating the need for users to come into the office there is potential for organisations to reduce occupancy or even close an office, resulting in extensive savings.
